Yeni 1,4 milyar sterlinlik yatırımın bir parçası olarak, önümüzdeki on yıl içinde 968 milyon sterlin, ISTARI Programı olarak bilinen askeri operasyonlar için daha fazla küresel gözetim ve istihbaratı desteklemek için çok uydulu bir sistem sunmayı taahhüt edecek. 61 milyon £ daha, uzaydan Dünya’ya süper hızlı geniş bantla eşdeğer bir hızda veri sağlamak için son teknoloji lazer iletişim teknolojisini keşfedecek.
Uzay savunmasına yapılan bu önemli yatırım, Birleşik Krallık Silahlı Kuvvetleri’ne ve müttefiklerine stratejik iletişim hizmetleri sağlayarak, halihazırda İngiltere’nin Skynet uydu haberleşme kabiliyetini yükselten mevcut 5 milyar sterlinin üzerindedir.

Müttefiklerimiz ve NATO ile yakın uluslararası işbirliği sayesinde DSS, İngiltere’nin uzay çıkarlarımızı nasıl koruyacağını, istikrar inşa edeceğini, dayanıklılığı artıracağını ve çatışmaların uzaya yayılmasını nasıl önleyeceğini özetliyor. DSS’nin bir parçası olarak, istihbarat, gözetim, durumsal farkındalık ve komuta-kontrol için en ileri teknolojileri sağlamak üzere 1,4 milyar sterlinlik projelere ek olarak, mevcut yatırımlarla finanse edilen bir dizi destekleyici program başlatılacak.
MINERVA
Önümüzdeki dört yıl içinde 127 milyon sterlin daha yatırım yapılması, uzayı kara, hava, deniz ve siber ile bütünleştirmek için tasarlanmış bir uydu ağı geliştirecek. Operasyonel bir konsept göstericisi olan yeni program “MINERVA”, Birleşik Krallık’ın cephe askeri karar alma sürecini desteklemek için Birleşik Krallık ve müttefik uzay varlıklarından özerk olarak veri toplama, işleme ve yayma yeteneğini sunacak. Program üzerinde çalışmalar çoktan başladı ve MINERVA, kurulan İngiltere Uzay Komutanlığı altında bir araya getirilecek ve 968 milyon sterlinlik ISTARI Programının temelini oluşturacak şekilde geliştirilmiş ve test edilmiş bir sistem sunacak.
PROMETHEUS 2
Alton’daki In-Space Missions Ltd tarafından tasarlanan ve bir araya getirilen iki küçük uydu (30cm x 20cm x 10cm), bir ayakkabı kutusunun boyutuyla karşılaştırılabilir, GPS, radyo sinyalleri ve gelişmiş görüntüleme yoluyla izleme için bir test platformu sağlayacak ve savaş müttefiklerimizle daha işbirlikçi ve bağlantılı bir uzay iletişim sisteminin önünü açacak.
Bu uydular, Portsmouth yakınlarındaki Savunma Bilim ve Teknoloji Laboratuvarı sahasında odaklanan yer sistemlerinin geliştirilmesi yoluyla MOD’un hem yörüngede hem de yerdeki bilim ve teknoloji faaliyetlerini destekleyecektir.
